Finance Workshops
Our Finance workshop is designed to help our members complete the Finance section of their Executive Summary. Chenoa Farnsworth co-founded Kolohala Ventures, a Hawaii-based venture capital firm, in 2006. Ms. Farnsworth has over 10 years of experience in strategy development and planning for start-up companies and small businesses in Hawaii through her independent consulting company, Farnsworth Consulting. Ms. Farnsworth has reviewed hundreds of business plans and helped her start-up clients raise over $30 million in financing. Prior to forming her consulting practice, Ms. Farnsworth spent five years in health and legislative affairs for the Hawaii state Senate and the American Nurses Association. She has also served the Hawaii community as a director of the Hawaii WomenÕs Business Center and as a volunteer coach and judge for the Wayne Brown Institute and University of Hawaii business plan competition. Ms. Farnsworth earned a BA in political science from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1992 and an Executive MBA from the University of Hawaii in 2000.

ChenoaÕs overall expertise is extremely valuable to our members who have already formed teams and have a business idea they will soon pursue. The workshop will be interactive, meaning the various teams will get the opportunity to share their business ideas with Chenoa, who in turn will offer immediate feedback and suggestions for improvement. Our members will walk away from the workshop gaining valuable insight, knowing exactly what Finance aspects their Executive Summary should contain.

Level Up!
What's good in the 'hood EC? Working hard on your business ideas? I'd like to give a big thanks to Susan Yamada for doing a very insightful workshop this past Wednesday and all those who came out. Speaking of ideas, what about Level Up?

Click here to download the application.(Don't have Word? Click here for a PDF version and write legibly!) These are due Friday March 6! Yes, today! The form takes a few minutes to fill out and is to summarize your idea. Don't stress about being too technical, you aren't being judged on this, it's just to give us an idea of the teams out there.

Don't have a team? We are starting a social network to allow our members to connect online and form groups. Just like Facebook, you can post a message on the 'wall'. So whether you need members to join in on your fabulous idea or you're looking to become part of a fabulous idea just post away and let it be known. Communication is key in any business.

To join the social group, click here.

Good hunting and good luck!

A word from our president...
The Entrepreneurs Club is here for a few reasons. The underlining mantra for our organization is simply "Entrepreneurial Empowerment". I have noticed a lack of a sense of empowerment and a level of expectation in this community, and believe that it's a shame that it does not exceed its full potential. I have met and seen a great number of people who have the potential to become nothing less than a great success, but haven't been pushed enough or feel as though it is not in their reach to become a great leader. The Hawaii community has a lack of desire for change and innovation especially through their publics schools, and this unfortunate mindset that settles for mediocrity has flooded into the norm for this generation. Seth Godin defines this as "Sheepwalking" or simply containing the status quo by doing mindless jobs. This mentality needs to stop and Hawaii needs to be given the chance that they deserve. This club give students that chance.

Small businesses are the majority here in Hawaii. I have come to find that many of my fellow peers have innovative ideas and want to start their own businesses, but the problem is that they don't know what to do with it or how to achieve success with it. Many students are scared of the dreadful thought of "failure", but what they fail to realize is that failure is the only thing that makes one really learn and grow. You need to fail to become successful. If one can cope with the prideful pains of failing, they can learn from it and be able to look back in the past and be appreciative that it happened. This club enables you take a risk, and gives you the secure environment that our organization has provided. We have created an environment for innovation, change and creativity, and if one fails with us, it is completely okay. They aren't going to lose anything, and we hope to provide a place where students can see the benefits of taking calculated risks.

We cannot be complacent because this community deserves better. The potential for big things to happen here is brewing and is ready to explode like a rocket, it's just nobody is willing to light the match. People are scared of what would happen if we tried to be different, if we tried our big ideas, if people will like our products, if the time is right. Here at the Entrepreneurs Club, we have started to light that match, but we need you to help us. We need you to be open to this new way of thinking. We need you to join us in this movement for a better tomorrow. We need you to be the leaders which will help us CHANGE THE WORLD!
